26 people attended the Barnsley Borough City of Sanctuary AGM on 4th June 2025. The guest speaker Najib Maram told us about her inspirational life story from being a successful and high-profile journalist in Afghanistan, the difficulties she faced losing everything in one night five years ago including her freedom, employment and education.
Last year Najib managed to come to the UK and has been studying and volunteering since she arrived here and wants to work. Everyone in the meeting welcomed her excellent presentation and congratulated her on abilities and fortitude in such difficult circumstances.
Reports of activity from the last year were given, the annual accounts were presented and new officers were nominated. It was agreed to move our meeting times to 3pm-5pm on the first Monday of every month.The next meeting will be 3pm-5pm on Monday 7th July 2025 in Room 12 of Barnsley Town Hall. Everyone welcome.
