Barnsley’s Refugee Bike Project recently celebrated a major anniversary – a year since receiving the keys to their new town centre home which has transformed the project from backyard venture to signicant service provider, all staffed by volunteers.

The project’s new home in Wellington House, supported by the National Lottery Fund, enabled the addition of workshop facilities. Now those who receive the bikes can help to recycle them, learning new skills from expert volunteers. The workshop has not only helped to provide affordable transport for refugees and asylum seekers but has also offered a place to improve language skills and make friends.
